Purpose Series: God , Purpose and Passion by Barnabas Oyebamiji

I want to start this write-up by telling you my discovery about people’s response to my articles. I found out subtly using feedback mechanism that most people find it difficult to stop reading my articles till they are done reading, so I embarked on a journey to discover why they do not drop my articles and guess what I found out as the reason? People do not drop my write-ups because they are curious, they want to find out what I have to talk about, they want to know what exactly is the point I am trying to make, simply put, they want to discover the PURPOSE of my article or should I say, what is on my mind when I took the pen.

Don’t let’s get carried away with that because this particular article isn’t entirely too talk about why people read my articles but on what happened to my thoughts on a particular evening. Let me share with you.

It began as a single thought while I was fixated on the most unexpected matter for meditation, a thought that began because while I was sitting outside my house on this particular evening for fresh air. I sat with my face up and my legs stretched over a relaxing table in a crossed pattern, with my eyes fixed on the sky. Then as if by revelation, I saw that hey, everywhere was bright! I subconsciously began to scan around for the source of this light and I ended up staring at the moon, it was the moon that was giving out light (smiles-can you imagine?).  The moon was shining so bright that I could see the lines of my fingers.

This discovery changed my thought pattern; I by default fixed my thought on the moon. I began to ask myself childish questions like is ‘why is the moon so bright, what is the moon doing up there’? …and other questions along this line.

So I decided to focus on the most reliable book of history ever known to man to have the most accurate facts, I remember what was on the first page, how that the creator created the whole universe, I got to that point where it talked about the moon, I wanted to know what the creator had in mind when he was creating the moon

And God(the creator) made two great lights; the greater light (the sun) to rule the day, and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:16

I saw that in the mind of the one who created the moon, the moon was to give light (rule) in the night. I mean to say that it became clear to me that the moon shining so bright to the point where I could see the lines on my palms is a normal thing, the moon was living up to expectation, the moon was living out what was in the mind of the creator when creating him. Simply put, the moon was fulfilling purpose!

Then with an unimaginable speed, my mind jumped from thinking about the moon to focusing on man, I began to think about what was on the mind of the creator when creating man (have you ever thought of that?). I had to go back to the most remarkable book in history again because that is the only trustworthy documentation there is. I saw that the creator created a garden and then created man and placed man in the garden he had created to maintain it. Maybe you didn’t get my explanation, I discover that the first man that was created wasn’t just created by the creator for creating sake, rather, the creator had a reason, the created man is to stay in the garden and take charge of all that was created. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. Genesis 2:15

Later, the creator saw that the workload was too much for the man alone, so He created an help-meet(fit) for him(the man)

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. Genesis 2:18-21.

Simply put, the assignment was too much for Adam to too alone, therefore, an helper became a necessity. This was followed by a thorough search for an helper and when no suitable helper was found, the creator had to create another creature of the same kind as the man that will be the help meet for him. I mean to say that the woman wasn’t created for creation sake but for a particular purpose.

  • Let us bring this down to a comprehensible bit,
  • no creator creates anything without a purpose in mind
  • the purpose of a thing is the reason for which that thing is created
  • no creature can no its value until it fully understand its assignment
  • you as a creature cannot understand your assignment until you know your creator

By now, it should be obvious to you that you are created for a particular purpose, you need to begin to soak in this truth! You are not a waste of resources, there is an assignment on the face of the wrath that necessitated your creation and you MUST carry out that assignment. I know situations and circumstances and the things you have gone through in time past have made it seems as though you are a useless nobody, but I want to tell you with all assurance that you are really precious to your creator…in fact, you are more precious than you know you are and that is why you need to go back to your source because you see, every creature is a representative of it source and until you know your source, you cannot represent properly. And that is why when you go further in the book of history, you get to a portion where the greatest and wisest man of his generation concluded his discovery about creation by saying ‘Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them’. Ecclesiastics 12:1

It would be greatly unfair If I do not mention how I ended my meditations, I asked myself a simple question which was “is it possible not to fulfill your purpose after you have known all this”? and my quick answer was YES. But then, I began to ponder on why it could be so, I came up with a lot of reasons why people fail to fulfill their purpose but in the long run, I observed from history that there is only one underlining reason why people do not end up fulfilling their purpose and that is A LACK OF PASSION! Yes, it sounds simple but that is the mother of all purpose slayers. Show me a man passionate about fulfilling his purpose and I will give to you an unstoppable purposeful achiever. You see, a passionate man is too attracted to his purpose to be distracted by any distractions. The truth is that distractions will always come to a man on the path of purpose, but what will keep me going is a resolute passion. Passion will get you to places where distractions are impossible. You will become too attracted to your purpose to the point where distractions are going to see you and fear. In fact, the resources to fulfill purpose flows in the path of passion.  By definition, I define passion as the boiling point of love. Your love for your purpose is so high and always at its boiling point that it melts away challenges.

I will talk more about this in my next write up on the September 14 on purpose and challenges. How to fulfill purpose in the face of challenges

Bearing Fruits unto good works

Hello Gems, it’s been a while. Sorry we got so busy but we will try to post here more often now.

Today I will simply be sharing on bearing fruits unto good works; let’s take a look down history lane…

Orange Tree Clipart

The Old man and the separation…

From the very beginning Man (Adam and Eve) was created and designed to bear good fruit, created in the very image of God and his likeness (in functions and everything there is), Remember the five point agenda God gave Adam in Genesis 1:28? Be Fruitful, Multiply, Replenish, Subdue and have dominion , Well that wasn’t an advice it was an instruction to man to do what he is able to do knowing he had the God-Kind of life (ZOE). From the creation of the world God gave man a purpose and instructions to fulfill it unto good works, Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s workmanship created unto good works. Just as Man was about to get to the five point agenda, guess who showed up? Yeah the devil! Always looking for whom to devour, man was deceived into giving up his birthright and from that day man died (Separation from the God Kind of life) and died (Separation from the Physical life). The devil lorded over man and it grieved God that he made man.

The compelling Love of God….

God is love and love never fails it always has a solution. So he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him shall not die but have everlasting.  Christ came and paid the price, he was made sin so we can be made righteous (2ND Corinthians 5:21), he translated us from the Kingdom of darkness into that of his Dear son and he brought back to us the God kind of life (Colossians 1:13).

The New Man…

The New Man was begotten from the incorruptible seed of the God Kind of life. He became the VINE and we became the BRANCHES.

Every Christian went through a recreation process of God the moment he made Christ the lord over his life by confessing his lordship and believing God raised him from the dead (2nd Corinthians 5:17). The New man was born from the Word and impacted with the RIGHTEOUSNESS, LOVE, and the very nature of God. God gave the new man a new Agenda to Reign in life (Do as GOD will) Romans 5:17.  From then onward the Holy Spirit tabernacled in the new man to teach him how to live this kind of life, to bear fruits unto good works.

Why bear fruits?

Every tree is planted with the aim of bearing fruit. Whatever comes from God does not deny his nature; it is our nature as creations to bear fruits. God made it clear from the very beginning when he said be fruitful and multiply.  In Matthew 21:18-19 Jesus showed us that a branch in a tree with just leaves and no fruits is functioning outside purpose. Embedded in every man’s purpose is an avenue to bear fruit. How many of you will employ a servant to clean your house and you wake up to find the house unclean everyday and you still pay the servant and keep him around? No wise man would do that, why? Because the servant is not fulfilling the purpose to which he is being paid. As Christians we died to the law and became alive to grace through Christ in order to bear fruit to God (Romans 7:4). The word of God says we can bear fruit so we should (Philippians 1:11, Colossians 1:10), In fact the bible mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 the Fruit of the regenerated human spirit which is: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. This is like saying ‘’Hey, New man this is what you have in you and this is what I want to see as a result of the seed and nature impacted in you’’.

You shall know them by their fruits….( Matthew 7:16)

There are two kinds of people in this world those from the Kingdom of LIGHT(THE DEAR SON) and those from the Kingdom of DARKNESS, there is also the  fruit of Light and the fruit of darkness (Ephesians 5:9) the kind of fruit you produce is determined by where you are sourced or the Kingdom you belong to. When an apple tree begins to bring forth coconut we say there is something wrong, we don’t pick grapes from thorn bushes that would be wrong   just like a dog given birth to a kitten is abnormal (Matthew 12:33).   In John 15:1-8 Jesus said he is the true vine which means there is a false vine out there and the fruits they produce shows how unreal they are. Hear this, not every branch that is planted in the TRUE VINE will bear fruit, bearing fruit as Christians is determined by how much we respond to the workings of the Holy Spirit in us to bring us to maturity.

Facts about the new man that bears fruit unto good works

His delight is in the Law(Word )of God(Psalm 1, Matthew 13:23): The ability of God came into the new man as a seed, and he put in us the word and the Holy Spirit to help grow it into fruits. Reigning in life requires the new man to respond to this ability by feeding on the Word and being schooled by the Holy Spirit in every way. The Fervency in the word of God and Prayer spurs us into keeping the right company and bearing fruit in due season. As it is important to bear good fruit it is also important that it is done in season. The leaves of a man who abides in Christ does not whither, there is strength, wisdom and power through Christ.

He Flourishes and Prospers (Psalm 92:12-14): His life is full of the activated blessings of God and forever beautiful, he is not limited by age or time.

He partakes of his own fruit (2nd Timothy 2:6): He is the first partaker of his own fruits which also means he is not the only one who partakes, as he is also a blessing to generations after him.

The Pruning Stage….

Everyone who bears good fruit must be pruned as to be more fruitful. The Greek word for  Prune is kathaírō –that is to make clean by purging (removing undesirable elements); hence, “pruned (purged)”; eliminating what is fruitless by purifying (making unmixed). Remember trimming usually requires sharp secateurs, this can be painful but allowing God chisel out the excess luggage in our life helps us to be more fruitful in our walk with him.

This shows that bearing fruit is the life of a Christian; it is our walk in the Spirit. We cannot afford to stop feeding and drinking from God’s well of wisdom.

WE ARE BORN OF AN INCORRUPTIBLE SEED LET US THEREFORE BRING FORTH INCORRUPTIBLE FRUITS UNTO GOOD WORKS (1st Peter 1:23)

Stay Komplete and Perfect in God’s will!

Hi everyone, the past two weeks has been awesome for me. Well, I think I’m back. I must confess i really missed you all. Yeah, I did #puppyeyes. So, I decided to do a quick review of this Godly beautiful babe – Jamie Grace. My love for this song boils down to the fact that I play the guitar (well, to an intermediate level). I love the beat, the lyrics and the flow of this track. Jamie Grace did this song God Girl [link to video] in which she addresses God with a similar got-a-crush tone, saying “I’m your girl” — by way of explaining that she isn’t interested in dating any boys right now (and, amusingly, that she wants all her “Facebook friends and foes” to know that she worships God).

If my eyes light up when I say your name And it’s written all over my face Tell me does it make me crazy. Well, maybe I got somethin’ that I can’t explain And the beauty of it never changes, It’s got me wrapped up I’m all caught up.I can’t help but say I’m a God girl that’s who I’ll be From the top of my head to the soles of my feet No I can’t deny it wouldn’t even try, I’m your girl in a crazy world I’m a God girl that’s who I’ll be From the top of my head to the soles of my feet I can’t deny it wouldn’t even try, I’m your girl for the whole wide world to see

This songs tells me not to conform to the standards of the world no matter what. Romans 12:2 says “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” 4153401 She went ahead in the verse two to emphasize how she has determined not to get pushed into marriage no matter what people say but to always wait on God for the right ONE. To all the guitar lovers, my christian hip hop lovers and every Jamie Grace fans, I dedicate this track to you.

Christianity is Boring….Yeah?

christianityisnotboring

The inspiration behind this post came from a discussion with a friend of mine who is like a god sister to me. I can’t seem to remember what we were discussing before we switched to how so many unbelievers think being a Christian will lead you to a boring life. Have you ever heard No cinema, No party, No vacation, No sightseeing, No beach, and the likes because you are a Christian? There are many misconceptions about the Christian life, and one is that it is boring.

The truth is the Christian life is where we find true joy and lasting peace, hope and contentment. The difficulty is that, if you’re not a believer in Christ, you truly don’t know what you’re missing. These things, like all good and perfect things, come from God (James 1:17). Those who believe the Christian life is boring have never taken God’s invitation to “taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8). Instead, they selfishly pursue whatever they think will make them “not bored” or happy or content. The problem is, the things of this world are temporary and can never truly satisfy.

The Bible tells us that sowing to please our sinful nature will surely lead to destruction (Galatians 6:8). King Solomon, the wisest and richest person who ever lived, had everything a person could possibly want. He said, “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure” (Ecclesiastes 2:10). Solomon had it all, but he concluded that it was “meaningless” and likened it to “chasing after the wind” (v. 11). In other words, he had everything this world had to offer, and he was bored.

What do you think we do all day just sit around fireplaces and read Bibles? We ski, swim, play sports, read, have friends and problems like anybody else. Christianity is not boring. It is an adventure.

Part of the problem may be how “boredom” is defined. Is it a lack of excitement? Nothing can stimulate perpetual exhilaration. Is it inactivity? If so, then the key is to find something to do. Is it uninterest? If so, the key is to be more curious. Is it a lack of “fun”? In that case, “fun” needs to be defined, since “fun” is itself a highly subjective concept. Some people assume that being a Christian is boring because they’ve heard that Christians have to give up all the “fun” things in life. It’s true that Christians give up some things, but it’s not the fun. Christians give up their sin, their self-destructive behavior, their addictions, their negative attitudes and their ignorance of God. In return, they receive “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). They “live as children of light” in a dark world (Ephesians 5:8). The mistakes of their past no longer have a stronghold in their lives. They no longer live for themselves but for the One who died for them. They serve others and make a difference (Romans 14:7; Philippians 2:4). They are becoming everything that God created them to be. It is virtually impossible to be bored in such a life. notboring

The only thing in this world that has eternal value is a relationship with Jesus Christ. A growing, committed Christian will find that life is never boring. There’s always another step of faith to take, another relationship to build, another person to serve. Is the Christian life supposed to be “boring”? Absolutely not. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).

I was flattered when Luski (a friend of mine) told me I’m the the silliest godly babe she’s ever known. Lol. I love to dress godly but also trendy, I love to do nice hair, I love to make up, I go to the Cinema, malls, and parties. I love to hang out with friends, I love sightseeing, I love to play pranks on people (I’m always happy when April 1st approaches), I love to catch fun, I love to laugh so hard till i feel my ribs are about to crack, I love vacations, holidays, etc. In short, I’m a very good dancer at least to an extent. Yet, I have a divine daily communication with my father, I study the word, I evangelize the gospel yet I’m not boring. Everything just has to be moderate. So i ask: Is being a Christian boring?

God, purpose and passion. #GPP

Lecrae – Free from it all feat. Mathai (update)

You may not have followed Christian hip-hop for years like I have, so I’ll briefly catch you up. I was introduced to rap music at a very young age, I use to listen to the likes of Eminem, 50 cent and others but after I got to know more of God requirements for my life, I immediately put a hiatus to their music. However, Christian rap is not just some lyrics; it’s deep in God, it’s God’s word in another amazing way bonded by a love for Christ and a love for gospel rap. We tracked the pioneering efforts of artists like Mars ILL, Grits, The Cross Movement, Gospel Gangstaz, Tunnel Rats, Braille, Lecrae, and LA Symphony. It will also shock you to know Nigeria also has some magnificent gospel rap artist like Rooftopmc’s, IBK spaceship boy,Rapsodee, Cikko, X2L, Omari, Bouqui,

We mused over whether Christian rappers could actually make a difference or were forever consigned to small crowds and little trust among the broader evangelical community. Today, I’m glad to say we have a verdict on that last question. Gospel hip-hop is here. It has broken through. It’s edifying the church, it’s influencing the culture, and, wow, it’s moving units.

When I stopped listening to secular music, I had to take time to tune myself with other genre of music but with time, I got to know we have gospel rap artist living their lives for God. On this note, I hereby present to you a track from Lecrae’s Gravity Album: FREE FROM IT ALL. This year, Lecrae has something to say to us all. Enjoy!

This song started with a sonorous voice of Mathai of the chorus followed by strings of rap from Lecrae. This is a crucial part of Lecrae’s appeal: he speaks with directness and honesty about life’s struggles even as he constantly points to the superabundance of grace found in Christ. An example of this kind of clarity comes in this track “Free from It All,” where Lecrae raps from the perspective of a beauty-obsessed person, detailing the empty brevity of a life driven by appearance.

maxresdefault

The price of fame and living for other people’s thoughts can literally kill someone inside. “Life is a cage and a prison of everyone’s approval/ Fight for acceptance and struggle so you don’t ever lose it/ But living for their acceptance is kind of stressing,” Lecrae raps. Because he’s living for God and not people, what people think about him and his progress isn’t a factor. “Should I fall, I’m still free from it all,” Mathai sings. Dru Castro and Uforo Ebong create a head-nodding track with powerful guitars. I took time to quote my favourite lines :

No grace and no exceptions, all they want is perfection
The man in the mirror can’t even see his reflection
You live for their acceptance, you die from their rejection
But even if I fall, I fell in the right direction
.

They say they love you, but It’s easy to fall from their graces
Live for everyone else gotcha losing yourself
Why be slave when made to be free from the guilt?
To be free from the shame, you are more than a name
If you go down you got the freedom to get up again

And of course, it’s got a beat that keeps head nodding, feet tapping and hands in the air. I’m pretty sure it’s a song you got to listen to especially if you are a lover of rap. #Doing funny movements to the track like I’m drunk#….Ah Ah, Drunk in tha holy-ghost!
